MY NAME IS "A" BY ANONYMOUS (2012)

Written by: David Chopping.

As admin and writer for my friend Woodenheart’s site ’Extreme Horror Cinema’ I explore a plethora of different aspects of the Indie / Underground movie scene of the world. Discovering Horrophobic, I met Greigh Johanson, who has been a true fellow fan of all these amazing films we love. Then Goregasmic Cinema was given birth and Greigh and the gang did both EHC and myself a couple of wonderful honours!

MY NAME IS “A” BY ANONYMOUS is a film inspired by true tragedy! Murder; of 9 years old Elizabeth Olten, by her 15 year old neighbour, Alyssa Bustamante. Soon after this event transpired low budget filmmaker Shane Ryan created his vision of what he saw in this tragic event. Four lead characters that are perhaps a morphing of different aspects of Alyssa Bustamante. Exploration into the day-to-day not so perfect lives of four teenage girls. Dealing with sexual abuse, bullying and the depression of dealing with shit. Self-destructive actions of self-mutilation and bulimia just to cope with the turmoil. Of betrayal of trust, that leads to the need to destroy something innocent. Be it of the self or in the end with Elizabeth. Who may be seen within the girls the aspect of their own innocents that has been ripped away from them through the cruelty of their own existence.

This is a dark tale told in three acts leading to the final tragic conclusion. Aspects are told from the first point of perspective as the girls shoot videos and images with their cameras. Other elements are told in actual acts. Beginning and end are shot in wonderful black and white that is shot beautifully! Everything morphs together perfectly to create this event in the nor so perfect lives of its young participants.

Solid acting all around; Katie, Demi, Kaliya, Alex and Teona hit their characters spot on. So very well done ladies! Emotions were felt and nothing happened that took this viewer out of the story. Along with this, the support did an amazing job as well. Shane really got a great cast together. Shane Ryan brings something very raw and hard-hitting with his vision of the elements that lead to the destruction of young innocents!  MY NAME IS “A” BY ANONYMOUS really pulled this viewer in from start to the end.

Thanks to Shane for allowing me the honour of experiencing his film. Thanks to Greigh for the honour of writing for this amazing magazine, Goregasmic.
