REVIEW WRITTEN BY: TIM NORDSTEDT. BAND PHOTOS

The first thing you notice is the unorthodox bandname, definitely one that stands in a class on it's own which on the other hand makes TPFD stick out,  a bit industrial metallish maybe but on the other hand I have cds with bands idiotically named Raping Goats to Sacrifice the Moon so nevermind that, let´s move on to the most important thing, the music.

Do anyone remember when Swedish melodic death/black metal had a strong ground? Ages and times before the most artists took a ride on the slide to the kindergarden and exchanged their spikes to crayons and wanted to be the next safetely rebellious boyband labels like  Invasion,  No Fashion, Black DiamondWrong Again and Black Sun amongst others released some of the most timeless, groundbreaking and greatest albums in the genre that very few acts in these days can live up to or even come close to.

Sadly even the most of the resurrected and respected cultbands that wishes to relive their glorious days of the nineties have lost the abilities to regain the spirit of the music, here is where The Pete Flesh Deathtrip comes crashing in through the stereo like a Delorean and brings back the past to experienced again.

This is not a newcomer that we have here, The Pete Flesh Deathtrip exists of Peter "Pete Flesh" Karlsson who everyone should recognize from the excellent death/trashmetal band Maze of Torment and many other lesser known constellations, with him on this recording he have brought guest musicians as Micke Broberg (Unanimated, Born for Burning) that spits lyrics in the same great, vicious way he is known for on half of the songs on this recording, on the drums we have yet another wellknown figure in the metalscene namely Andreas Jonsson (Vinterland, The Black, Nunfuck Ritual) so you can without a doubt count on some quality here.

TPFDT have been around lurking in the underground since 2004 under the name of Flesh which released 3 full-length album, it´s not only the name that has gone through changes, even the music have been placed under the scalpel an gradually being sculpted into almost perfection, the main difference in the music is that Flesh had more of a chunky d-beat old school type of influence, well made but not as memorable, in TPFDT Peter takes the compositions into a further territory and this time he shoveled his way right up to the top in the more melodic take on 90s death/black metal.
Mortui Vivos Docent is absolutely not a carbon copy, it binds, weaves and entangles the aesthetic sounds of bands like Unanimated, Gates of Ishtar, Sacramentum, A Canorous Quintet and the early works of Marduk and Dissection and ties it into a perfekt ball and adds a whole bunch of influences by it's own.

This album have the same variation and feelings of the early Unanimated albums but more solid and complete as nothing tends to stray off the beaten path, and it stills manage to serve a whole plate of diverse tempos and small curious inputs like trashier parts, old school swedish death, black metal and even some clever picks that seems to fit newer acts like Deathspell Omega, the eight track Bleed is accompanied by clean vocals both male and female and that without dragging the material down in any way, in fact every single particle of this album seems to be carefully and meticolously carved out in different forms and shapes to be perfectly assembled into a greater picture.

Mortui Vivos Docent is really not an album that should be overlooked in any way and if you like real metal in general then I would recommend this album wholeheartly!

TPFDT is right now in the making of a new album named Svartnad that is almost finished and i really hope that a recordlabel will come to their senses and finance the release, the metalscene needs it.
